Day 2: March 19th was the first day of spring. For today's activity, you are going to write an acrostic poem for spring. For an acrostic poem, you write the letters of the word down the page. Each letter begins a line of the poem. The poem describes the word. I also want you to use a type of figurative language in your poem. You can use imagery, personification, simile, or metaphor. We have discussed these in class.
Imagery: describes something using the senses
Personification: making nonhuman things act like humans
Simile: comparing unlike things using the words like or as
Metaphor: comparing unlike things without using the words like or as
Today you will begin thinking about what you would like to include in your poem. Use the organizer to get your thoughts down for your poem.

Day 3: Go back through your poetry ideas. Look at your organizer. Remember to include examples of simile, metaphor, personification, or imagery in your poem. What kinds of things can you compare your season with? How could you describe your season so your reader makes a mind movie? Can you make your season act like a human in some way?
Remember that each line of your poem must start with a capital letter, even if the line is not a complete sentence.
After you have looked over your organizer, you are ready to begin writing your final copy.
